Brown water Raritan Smallmouth
After this week's washout this weekend featured stained, high water. Couldnt wade much, just have to pick the right spots for the right conditions.
I managed two 16' smb on heavy jigs and plastics. The one at the bridge was right behind the pillar where the water was calm. I had to pull the line up by hand as my light rod was not going to tolerate the haul up 20 or so feet. I was fortunate 6lb test got the job done. Tried some other spots without luck other than this one new spot, again like 15 ft above the water, and hooked an even better bass that quickly came undone before I even tried lifting it up. Last few weekends did some other stuff. Like targeting carp, checked out the passaic gorge and found a trout and some redbreast, and more smb. First carp was 28 inches. Gave away that smaller carp to some folk. They say the ones < 20inches are good eatin. I might have to investigate next time I catch a small one |
