Net filler trout
After the fisheries forum today I took advantage of the long drive out to northwest NJ and hit the upper south branch raritan.
I have no good knowledge of the surrounding waters, but I knew the south branch was a good choice and hit up some public park in long valley. Big hole with stocking signs under a tiny bridge. Looks good. I'm just happy to be fishing at this point with how cold it's been. Wasn't too long until I hook something. Yeehaw! As I'm bringing it in. It's not the typical trout. I swear I was convinced it was a carp with the fat shape this thing had. Bringing it up, seeing the pink stripe, I was nearly stunned to see it was a rainbow. The thing almost filled my net. Sorry for a low quality pic. But i have 0 experience holding fish this size. Didn't exactly play the fish long so she wasn't exactly calm when I tried taking her out of the net. I guess my first broodstock! Caught on black marabou jig 1/8oz and 4 lb test. Bonus: earlier this week on Monday I caught my first sucker fish. Caught on a 1/80th oz jig beneath seeleys pond dam. Just neat for me. Last edited by thmyorke1; 01-20-2018 at 07:51 PM.. |
