Default Post-meeting outting

Last year after the Freshwater Forum I landed my PB trout while stopping on the south branch. So I hit the same spot I did last year. (which I also just hit two weeks back with success)

I spent only an hour or two with three fish landed. Eye balling a ~15inch "goldfish" that came swimming downstream and hung out in the area, chasing my lure at the end a few times.

While I didnt hit a new PB this time, I did hook up with one of my largest trout and the fight was reminiscent of what 17 inch smallmouth bass would do. Super fun!

Trout are very active even in this cold water. Saw two instances of fish rising to top. All fish hook had plenty of energy.

Also rewind earlier this week, hit the lamington in a lower+new stretch and found two rainbows. Well actually three, found one hanging around the edge of the bank with some white marks on its head. It wasnt spooked by my presence. Figured it was ill and I left it be.

It seems the lamington holds trout all over the river, even if black river and NB raritan is only stocked.

Lamington:

(edit) and forgot to mention lures: two at lamington both on a 1 1/2 inch orange paddle tail. The three today all on 1 inch white mister twisters.

Thumbs up Re: Post-meeting outting

Nice fins on all the trout. I guess some kind of predator will pick off the sickly trout. I think if you catch a "diseased" fish you can always take it to one of the F&W labs throughout the state, or toss it in the woods.

Way to Go! I went "window shopping" along the Musky on my way home from the Forum. I didn't bring my gear thinking that the weather would turn bad sooner than it did.
