Default Transducers

I have a couple questions. I have a basic transom mount transducer to my simrad Evo2. I want to add structure scan/side scan. So I was told I can't mount it on the left side of my motor because of prop wash. And I can't mount it on the right because that's where my other transducer is. Simrad said I can mount it above the other one and offset. Would they both work good like that? Or is it better to install the basic transducer as a thru hull and then put the structure scan in its place? And does anyone know avg time of install for a thru hull transducer? Also is it likely that my transducer I have now to have a lot of growth on it already? The boat has only been in the water since May Thanks in advance

Curious why the prop wash is different on one side but not the other. Or that opinion is prop wash?

Side scan or 3 D sonar requires separation of transducrers . The further apart- the better. And they must stay in the water and be free of air bubbles when boat is moving and on plane.

The tru hull must also be free of bubbles outside the hull and in the adhesive used. So chines are out. If it's a slow boat no biggy. But planing hulls are limited wetted areas and trying to find clean water outside the hull free of air bubbles in the water created by the hull are crucial to get it wto work at higher baot speeds.

So obviously the deeper the V the better for you. Look where the water breaks on your chines on plan and mark it. Look to the rear of that as far towards the keel as possible. But remember, the separation between transducers makes it work better. So possibly the other side of the keel as far forward as the clean water planing will allow.

Hope that helps? It's generalities. But its also the consideration as to where to mount the 2nd xducer. And moving the first X ducer further off the keel center line outboard of it would help too with more separation.

Why don't u call a marine dealer that specializes in these installtions , they have to be done correctly or else u will always not get results ur looking for !
I personally had all my transducers installed thru hull on all my boats except a couple of early model Whalers ! Done right u get optimum readings at a range of speeds .
The bigger boats wer all hull recessed and glassed over so nothing stuck out of hull in case of hitting objects at hi speeds !
There is a transducer clear coat that u can apply to retard any growth on unit if this is occurimg I would paint it !

Your boat manufacturer might be able to help with the hull placements as well. They should know where the best place to mount them is so they are in clean water and read while underway.

You also want to make sure any holes you drill below the water line are sealed properly or you are looking for trouble down the road.

I believe I have the same boat as you. 23 Tidewater CC. I had electronics person do the install last summer and he managed to install the thru hull in wrong location. Kept loosing bottom above 24 mph. Had a better company fix problem by installing a B60 20° close to keel and transom. Works perfectly above 40 mph and in choppy conditions. He is located in Wall Twp. The previous transducer was installed about 4 feet behind the lifting strake. All that turbulance was no good. Hope this was helpful. Any questions, feel free to ask.

the sidescan can be right next to the 2D its not a problem diff frequencies, I have mine like that on a Humminbird setup. The HiDef transducer must be a hair lower to not have a dead spot from the 2D one. On a single screw motor setup port is actually better there is less propwash than starboard. Id remove the ducer you have now and install a transducer plate to the hull w 5200 and some screws and then install the 2D and HiDef to that. Remember your sidescan only works at a few mph, after about 7-8 mph you get fuzz and the picture becomes useless real quick on most hulls
