Default Mounting a trolling motor bracket

Have a trolling motor I want to use on my 17' Sea Nymph center console (Aluminum). Cannot fit in the motor well so have to mount it to the right or left to the transom. It is sealed and I'm sure its filled with styrofoam. Was wondering is anyone did a similiar install or had ideas on what type of fastener I could use. Im thinking of the type that opens once in side the hole but will the stryfoam hinder it from opening. Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated...... Walt
