Default Starting off the year muggin'

Probably the slowest fishing start to a year i've ever had mostly due to the weather. Had a decent end to the day tog fishing last week after catching nothing all morning (all's well that ends well though, limit on the last drops i'll def take it!)

Then, just took the first freshwater trip of the year because I believe trout fishing prevents ice formation (i'll post the scientific links behind it later). Headed out with scoward on the infamous mugger, but we just couldn't find much of anything to cooperate and not enough boats around catching for us to mug!

About as enjoyable of a day we could've had with the terrible bite if you don't count almost dying from the waves that started blasting us when the wind kicked up hahaha. Good times BSing and even managed an average sized smallie and a dink perch to avoid the skunk.

PS, that may or may not be my wife's pink and purple gym bag that i borrowed as a tackle bag...it's called being innovative!

I am glad that i was not the only one dealing with the crazy winds to get a few fish I do not see anything wrong with that bag it works fine just as long as the wife does not mind. a smallmouth and a perch is a good way to kick the skunk any day.

This time of the year is tough because the water temp is only just 39.2 degrees at the bottom but when a stiff wind is from a southerly direction and your at the North end of the lake, it really hurts the presentation. Getting a couple under those conditions is doing OK in my book. I'm sure if it was calm, it would have been a different story.

That south wind came up fast! Even blew my hat off!!! haha
Running back to the dock with the the wind astern and not having the hp to stay behind the wave was causing us to broach.....Not a good situation especially knowing the water was in the mid 30's. The Mugger crew lived to sail another day and we avoided the skunk. Nice sammy Chrisper!
