Years ago we would chum and use grass shrimp for bait to target weakfish. It wasn’t unusual to pickup fluke while doing so. Also used pink finesse on light jigheads along with grass shrimp....

Not sure about grass shrimp but I've seem quite a few Fluke with Mantis Shrimp in them...

When we had good runs of fluke and weakiies in the back bay it was loaded with grass shrimp.

Not a popular technique in Raritan Bay but in Barnegat Bay chumming with grass shrimp has always been a great light tackle technique for both weakfish & fluke.
Also use this technique on the ocean side side of the north jetty of Barnegat Inlet for schoolie (& occasional small sized keepers) stripers and blackfish. I’ve found many mantis shrimp upon cleaning both fluke & stripers caught in Raritan Bay. |
