Default Croakers in Raritan Bay

My uncle suffered a heart attack last year, and my aunt has forbidden him from any form of boat fishing. He used to drive up to cape cod, fish 18 hour trips and drive right back...but now I'm looking to take him shore fishing.

Any comfortable, land-based spots for croakers/snappers in the bay? I haven't shore-fished in at least 15 years, the only place I can think of is Belmar but that involves some climbing up and down hills/rocks and I'd rather stick to flatter land for my uncle.

Any info much appreciated.

They're getting Croakers/Spots off the Keyport municipal pier (free). Small pieces of sandworm or clam with light sinker. Snappers have been spotty. . .

Both look very comfortable to fish from. Which pier gets more crowded? I hate to fish in a zoo.

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Pick ANY spot on the stretch of beach between belford ferry and keansburg. There are plenty of croakers to be had off the jettis, but it will be a zoo at just about any given time. Literally just park anywhere and post up with a hi lo spot/kingfish rig and fishbites (make sure it is the pink bloodworm imitation). Cast out and wait for them to get soft. Once it softens up you should start getting hits. The bay is LOADED with croakers right now. Even more so than spot this year. Good luck!
