After the Clean Water Act was enacted, I caught a tagged American shad in the Delaware River and the fisheries biologist didn’t believe me. I had to mail the tag to him. At that time it was believed that all of the shad in the river died after spawning because they couldn’t survive the low oxygen level in Camden on their attempted return to the ocean. A repeat spawner a year later was unheard of.
