A quick wrap up...
We fished for 3 days while camping with us for the first time and he would have fished 7 x 24 if he had his way and I had the energy. I forgot how much it takes out of you trying to keep up with a little person's energy and needless to say we slept well.
He got the casting down surprisingly fast and showed a good amount of patience until we finally got dialed in on the sunnies and small bass by switching over to worms under a bobber.
The topper for me was when we got home and his Mom asked him what his favorite part of the camping trip was. Without hesitation he screamed FISHING!!
Got to love when kids take an interest in the outdoors and the simpler things in life. Seeing fishing through his eyes reminded me how I got hooked so many years ago and how this great sport of ours can consume you and along the way, enrich you with a lifetime of great friendships and fond memories.
This is the sort of stuff you won't find at Disney or sitting behind a TV or video game. Yes it requires a bit more effort but contrary to what the techies would have you believe, it is the truest definition of a "totally immersive experience" and is much more rewarding.
If you need help getting started there is NJ State Sponsored parents fishing class on Thursday June 23rd
