The Shimano baitrunner that I have is reliable but requires cleaning and maintenance. When I was bait fishing the surf back in the day I used conventional reels , Penn 980, Penn Sqiudder which is bulletproof and Shimano Calcutta which I still use for throwing heavy lures on big surf days.
