I served on a destroyer 1964-1966 where I developed my sea legs. Sometimes we were in 30' waves for days.
My father was the real hero. During WW11 he saved another sailor who was drowning. Their ship was hit by a kamikaze in Okinawa Bay and was sinking. Some of his shipmates were attacked and killed by sharks. Years later he found the ships bell in a defunct church in Bernardsville, N.J. It is the only one left and is in the naval museum.
