You hook them through the soft tissue in the top and bottom jaw and hang them in a hole in the ice.....you do not put the stringer clip up in the gill plate. Try it sometime....It works. Allows for a nice picture at the end of a great day and gives a good feeling knowing someone else will have a chance to do the same through the ice or in the not to distant future when we will have open water. BORN FREE......  |
Placing fish on a stringer and hanging them in a hole stresses the fish. They may swim away strong, however, their mortality rate will be far greater verse simply releasing them as soon as they are caught. You have to decide how important the picture at the end of the day is worth to you. I'm not going to say you should or shouldn't do it. That's an individual decision and you are doing nothing illegal so its your call. Just realize the fishes mortality rate is effected by placing them on the stringer. Good luck to you!
