Default Runny Raritan River Revenge

Lots of rain lately, not too common for mid-summer compared to this last spring.

That means lots of dinner bells ringing throughout the watersheds of NJ!!

Oh boy, the fish were EAGER to finally get some more water to swim around in.

Sunday I tossed a line out and nailed a small decent largemouth

Monday I skunked! PEEYEW.

Today however I nailed them.

Started off at the canal, nothing caught at the lock and nothing in the spillway that leads to the river. Mind you the canal is CRYSTAL clear in this area at this moment; canal is always a good plan b in case of muddy waters as it gets stained very late compared to other waterbodies.

Took a while but finally got my efforts worth with a 17 inch smallmouth. 1/2 oz jig with a zoom chart fat albert grub.

Then a dink largemouth, and another smallmouth just a bit smaller than the last one. Same jig with a big white kietech.

Then as the river was getting more clear I went to a 1/8oz jig with a 3 inch paddle tail swimbait. Snatched a striper. Oh also a lil white perch.

A friend of mine was using a similar jig around this time and caught a 22inch walleye, and also a healthy sized lmb, maybe 18 inches at least, that threw the hook.

Overall a redeeming day. The key to success today was making sure that jig was DOWN. Every fish seemed to scoop it up right off the bottom as it went down with the current. None caught while swimming it.
