Spruce Run 4-26-18 - Skunked from the Boat but Success beating the bank
Took advantage of the nice weather and had myself a day entirely dedicated to fishing. My first stop was the NBRR north of 78 where I was targeting trout and smallies. I had never been to this stretch of river before and I really liked the stretch near the entrance to AT&T (where 202/206 crossed over river). Hooked one medium sized largemouth here then moved on. Next stop was Spruce run where I decided to launch despite pretty stiff winds. I gave up after 2 hours without a bite and planned to stop at the Rowland Mills section of the SB on my way home. As I always do when I leave SR after getting skunked on the bot, I stopped at the lot by SR Creek for a few final casts. It was getting close to magic hour and there were a good number of anglers spread along the point there. I started casting about 30 yards from the bridge with a wacky senko. Managed to land a decent 3.8 lb largemouth first then about half hour later a decent smallmouth (first of the year). Unfortunately I lost what would have been a PB smallie before I could snap a pic. I had just removed the hook and was showing off what looked to be about a 19” smallie to the other anglers who had heard the commotion when I lost my grip and dropped the fish into the 3 inches of water where I was standing. After that it was me diving into the water trying desperately to grab the fish without success. You could probably hear my expletives clear across the lake when I watched my PB swim away. All in all a good day though!
