If you're waiting for the dark blue water you see in the canyons to come into the mudhole, you'll be waiting for a long time. The best you are going to see with any regularity is green with some light blue mixed in. You also need warmer water so you want to look at the temp charts as well and choose an area we're you see the bluest water and highest temps, mid 70s and up. Combine that with an area where there are pots and you'll have the best shot at them.

Trolling small stuff around the pots will work but your best bet will be pot hopping throwing bait or small artificials on spinning gear around the pots.
