The only negative thought I have about this is I think you can fight a fish to exhaustion and building up too much lactic acid. Even when they swim away (assuming its released), they might not make it later on.
Note - this is not a criticism of you by any means. Its just my general comments.

More than 99% of the fish that I hook with 2 lb test line are small and I reel them in quickly. Most years I only hook a few carp with 2 lb test line but I keep everyone. I never caught a big bass on 2 lb test. They usually don't hit small lures.
