That's nuts!
Maybe the thin pike bit off more than it could chew in very cold water and couldn't swallow such a bass, but wouldn't let it go either out of instinct (if you're starving you don't let go of food!) and they both died (bass died first), floated up and froze! Mid-winter lake crime scene
