Default Sunday evening/Monday evening

My son and myself fished the Big D Sunday afternoon until about 12:00am. Fishing was on the slow side. We put are junky sneakers on and waded a stretch of river we usual do good on the smallies. We caught some fish but nothing to write home about. We had some smallies, rock bass, sunfish, couple small stripers, and one channel cat on live sunnie. We got dried off and changed clothes and set-up for few hours night time catfishing. Extremely slow to say the least. We fished until almost midnight and only had two kitty's so we called it a night.

Yesterday after work me and my girlfriend finally had some free time which we could sneak out fish together. So grabbed the seine net and we seined a bunch of hellgramites and headed to the river. Was lights out fishing on cookie cutter small mouths from 6-12". We fished for about 3 hours and was heading back to truck when i said let's make a few casts by the big rock before we leave. By were we park there's a big boulder in water that always has fish around it. We make a couple of cast and catch some small rock bass then all of a sudden my girls rod doubles over and drag starts screaming. I'm standing next to her coaching her trying to remain calm, and trying to catch a glimpse of whats kicking her butt on the rod. Then it jumps and it's a slammer smallie. Takes her a good 5 minutes to get the fish to shore on ultra light with 6lb test but biggest smallmouth we've caught in a while if not the biggest we ever caught out of there. Cause of long battle we didn't weigh or measure just a quick pic and back in the drink. But it was a slammer and was very proud of her. Can't beat hellgramites for smallies if you have time to catch them!!!
