It's funny I read this right now. I'm am totally an over-the-top, heavy gear guy, and I've often wondered how big a reel on actually needs. We landed a 7-foot, 100+ pound blacktip yesterday on a 4500 Penn Slammer III with 30 pound braid and a 25-pound fluoro leader. Fish actually hit a lure and bit it just right. Or it may have eaten a skipjack that ate the lure. My point is, you're probably good with a 4000, 3000, or even a 2000.
