Default GAMBLER --Big Mack Attack!

Covered a lot of ground looking for bass or blues the last couple days. Seeing plenty of baitfish and birds but the stripers are not ready yet.

Took a long ride south and tried some good spots but no bites.

I decided to look off the beach, hoping to find some bluefish. I saw some faint marks on my fish-finder, showing mid water. I had the guys drop some mackerel rigs down and it was old time mackerel fishing on medium to big Bostons. Guys and gals had a great time lifting double and triple headers over the rail. Coolers filled quickly.

We will keep our eyes and ears open for the stripers and blues but we are going to head for the mackerel grounds again tomorrow. Bring your kids! Same times and prices as our striper trips.

We will be offshore on a tilefish trip on Sunday but resume with mackerel on Monday --as soon as the stripers/blues are ready, the Gambler will be too.

I took home a bag of mackerel fillets myself.

Here is how I cook them:

Marinate, skin on in teriyaki, Italian or balsamic vinaigrette. Add spices, maple syrup or whatever you like to taste. Marinate for one to 24 hours.

Preheat grill to 350F.

Optional: If you have a smoker box with wood chips, this is a good time to use it.

Place mackerel fillets, skin side down, and cook for 10 to no more than 15 minutes. Tastes great.
