Agreed. If it says Mercury oil use that. A warranty would be voided not using it.

I have a 2006 25hp Mercury EFI and I use Mobil One in the grade they specify. It's only a Quart and half. More importantly is the right filter. That's what makes the difference. Mercury makes a smaller and larger filter. The larger one has more filtration area. Its longer.

Thats what the engine was designed to use. and doing so will have it operating the way it should for many many years.
Using the wrong oil could really shorten the engines life span.
