Shimano Torium can't be beat for wire. Carbide guides or rollers on the rods are a must. Wire is old school but it works! Many newer fishermen don't know how to use it. The knots are important to tie properly and many guys don't know how to do it. Mono to wire.........Albright! Marking the wire with colored plastic telephone ( really old school.....telephone wire?) is a long lost art too. Reels need substantial mono backing and should hold 150 - 300 feet of wire on top. TLD's for braid work but you don't need the pre- set drag. You can go for something less expensive.
