Re: fluking in montauk
Official world record fluke was caught in Montauk and from what I understand it was caught on a large snapper bluefish.
Having been stationed there in the Coast Guard I will give you a little advise about fishing there. Early on and early off the water. The afternoon chop there is notorious due to the cold water and heat over the land and about 3-4 in the afternoon it can really get honking and chop it up bigtime. Also the fog that happens out there is like nothing you have ever seen before and a good radar and GPS are a must.
As the Shrimpman has often called it, Montauk is like the promised land and the fishing out there can be nothing short of spectacular.
