CAttachment 86953apts. Alan and Chad and Mate Darryl had Open Boat Canyon Overnighter with Leif, brothers Matt and Brian, the father and son team of John and Sam, and Scott flying solo. After a beautiful ride out, it took only 5 minutes after the spread was deployed before the mid-center rigger daisy chain got blasted - after a powerful run, a main line knot popped and Mr. Bigeye swam off with our Sterling Tackle Crazy 8 daisy chain. After a few expletives, we re-grouped and trolled right back over, getting blasted by two eyeballs. Matt's got unglued, but the other rod was passed several times around before the 220-240# class bigeye was darted. The overnight was slow for us, but some other boats did connect with some yellowfin. The morning troll put 3 of 5 longfin in the boat, then added a couple dozen nice mahi off the pots with chunkbaits. The canyons are full of life, and a great season is going on!
