Default Father's Day 2015 Catskills

I finally got up to the Catskills with my son this year after a couple years of bad weather and schedule conflicts. We had a nice trip. We fished Friday night and Saturday for trout and Sunday morning in a lake for bass and pickerel.

We fished the East Branch Friday night after a few slices at Raimondo's and managed one feisty brown in the high off color water. We had to leave the river early due to wader failure. On Saturday we fished a spot on the East that produced nothing before we fished the Beaverkill with some drys and had a nice brown on a yellow drake.

Later that evening we went back to the East Branch and managed another nice brown on a black marabou leech. My son loves to catch LMB and pickerel so we also fished a lake and caught bass and many pickerel on frog patterns and a purple fly my son tied that the pickerel could not resist. Leif fished a buzz bait as well and had many explosive strikes.

We saw very few bugs. A few yellow drakes, some caddis in the evening along with some sulfurs and BWO's. We saw some fish rising but not consistent and very sporadic.

We had a great time and it was nice to get away with my son. We saw some big snapping turtles, porcupines, eagles and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
