Default Enjoy Fishing? Share Your Expertise at the June 6 Youth Fishing Derby in Trenton

The City of Trenton is again partnering with DEP to host the Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 6 (rain or shine) at Stacy Park in Trenton. The program will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and is open to Trenton youth in grades 2 - 8. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

We are asking for volunteers to help with fishing instruction and other program needs, such as judging, registration and lunch service. The program will include two 45-minute fishing derby competitions with trophies; fishing instruction and open fishing for youth; educational stations (displays, equipment, vehicles) related to water quality and aquatic habitats; and food and drinks for the kids.

DEP entities that are assisting with the Youth Fishing Derby include the Black Environmental Solidarity Team (BEST), Fish and Wildlife’s Hackettstown Hatchery, the Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Program, Water Resource Management’s Urban Fishing Program, the Office of Environmental Justice, and the Office of Communications.

Details about the Youth Fishing Derby, including a flyer, program and registration information, can be found at www.nj.gov/dep/seeds/fishingderby.htm.
