Trout Slam up in Hunterdon this AM
Weather was gorgeous so I called good friend Charlie "Dr. Bones" Bonilla up and decided to try our old stomping grounds on a few small streams and one big one.....
First up, lines in at 07:30 hours at the Changewater Trestle....saw one guy with what looked like a limit and three other guys with nada....gave it hell for about 30 minutes without a tap so looked over at Dr. Bones and said, "lets hit the Spruce Run Creek".....
Second stop, lines in at 08:15 hours by the softball field....nada...zippo..water was low and clear....didnt see a fin....time to move....
Third stop, lines in at 08:40 at a spot we call "Spooky House"....Bones starts swinging away at da bows and collects 2 in short order on yellow eggs. I swing and miss and start thinking its not gonna be my day......"Bones, we gotta move!"....Fortunately he didnt mind leaving fish to find fish, so we moved further down the line to a couple more holes on the creek.....
Fourth stop, lines in at 09:15, I finally connect with a beaut (On those damned yellow eggs), and we both watch a breeder tease us without committing at a spot I will keep to myself...."Bones...this sucks....we gotta keep moving to find the money spot"...
Fifth spot was magic. Different stream.....zero pressure...instant action (all on the same eggs)....Bones limits in 15 minutes and I start catching up....
Its after 10 now and we decide to just hit a couple spots on the Cap, and...well......the rest is catch-and-release history! Found the mother-lode and they were all in the mood to chew, and honestly????? We were in the mood to give them all a chance, and other anglers as well....all I can say is.....we hit 6-7 spots....saw a total of.....6 other anglers out on our spots?????? On a gorgeous day?????? With plenty of action waiting anyone with a jar of eggs????
C'mon, guys!!!!!! Dr. Bones is already itching to sneak out again and it would be great to share some spots....or at least see some interest in these gorgeous streams!!!!!!
