Default A very chill opening day

Lured by the thought of tying into some broodstock, I was standing on the bank of Echo Lake in Howell at the opening bell this morning. Lots of people there, but we were spread out enough so that tangling wasn't a major issue. The wind was howling so bad that the only lure I could cast effectively was a Kastmaster. Luckily, the rainbows seemed to like it, and I got my limit in about 2 1/2 hours. Action was slow all the way around, I did not see a lot of people catching multiple fish. I did see a few broodstock caught, but nowhere near the 50 that were supposedly put in there. All in all a somewhat relaxing day.

Some notes on the day:

There were two cormorants on the lake, saw one get a trout before the bell. They left pretty soon after all the casting started.

There were a pair of anglers in a boat. The lake is only 6 acres, with shoreline access all the way around. Yeah they caught some fish, but... really?

One kid across the lake fell in the water. He asked his dad for a towel, and kept fishing. NICE!

Anyone using a red and white plastic bobber constantly had them blown back at them.

Lures seemed to outfish bait.

But I won't be around at all, so don't even bother to call,
Cause on a day like today there's one place I gotta be:
