Sandworms are a great forgotten early season bait, especially in shallower areas with dark muddy bottoms. Haven't fished them in years....You can still or drift fish them with good results. They did however get fairly pricey and are sometimes hard to find.

I've seen the bunker come in as early as mid March but the Stripers don't seem to pay much attention to them until the water warms up.

We mostly Clam at anchor in the early spring. Fish are lazy and its any easy meal until they get more active. Caught my personal best at 40 pounds on clam.
