I was tired of working the tip ups saturday so we hit cong sunday with just our jigs in hand. (we were not doing the KDC contest, just fishing for fun) My legs were killing me from all the snow stomping the day before and it's now worse from all the walking today haha.
Anyway it took us a few hours to find those pesky perch, only picking away at a few average sized ones here and there, but then we found the jumbo den! turned their roof into swiss cheese and went to town on them!
Filled the bucket with the smaller keepers and hoisted up 2 hogs over 13" for SA 1 and 2 within about 15 minutes of each other both released (kind of made up for my pickerel SA that had to be weighed in from the contest the day before and therefore not eligible)
So after the perch bite died down, before we could wonder why, i hook into something much bigger. tons of weeds came up to the hole and i couldn't see crap finally i got it to the hole and it was a pickerel with a huge head! i went for the quick grab and it slipped through my hand and snapped my line!
probably another SA pickerel damn! Took my favorite jig too! oh well, if anyone gets a giant pickle dart with a glow dot tungsten jig in it's mouth that would be mine! haha
I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between the spots with little to no perch and the perch hog hole...all same depth, same weeds...only difference we closer to shore, idk.
2 hogs CPR and a bucket of smaller ones for the fish fry, great weekend
