As I understand it, you can still car-top launch there, but can't launch anything with a trailer.

I tried to launch from that spot this past summer, but the state put up a sign saying you had to have a special parking permit to to use the parking lot by the boat ramp. All the public parking spaces were taken and the park police were preventing people from parking in the street or on the lawn to prevent the chaos and drownings they had at that spot in previous summers.

So I parked directly beneath the I-80 bridge and threw my kayak down the steep bank and into the water. Scared the shit out of some old bucket sitters fishing under the bridge.

Seemed like a good idea at the time. The problem was loading the kayak back onto the car. I had to climb up that steep bank that was completely covered with poison ivy while dragging the kayak behind me.

They maintain Old Mine road in the winter, but in a very minimal kind of way.
