As far as surf setup goes, I have 12 foot rods and will be throwing weights of around 3oz to 5oz in size with some small baits on the hooks (have considered using bloodworms, sand worms, live killifish, pieces of crab, shrimp, clam, and squid). Fishing for anything that bites, not specifically targeting anything yet.

Line is 15 pound monofilament with 50 pound monofilament leader of more than 12 foot in length ( to avoid breaking the 15 pound line upon casting the weights.)

I didn't think the reels mentioned would be considered fancy, but if there are any simpler recommendations, I'm always looking for more info.

I know i can cast real far with 15foot or 16 foot rods coupled with a big cone reel with braided line but that just sounds more expensive than i would like to start out with.

This is a beginner setup as i have not fished surf many times before.
My 12 foot rods should be good enough, just looking for a good reel to pair them with for both carp and surf duties. Thanks for the help.
