As said before, braid has a much smaller diameter than mono and the thinner the line the less resistance in the water and the easier it is to stay on the bottom with less weight. The lighter weight the easier it is to detect strikes and the better action you'll get on the jig.

This is also important for dragging bait too. I've seen times fishing deep with a moving tide where you couldn't hold bottom unless you were fishing 10 plus ounce weights with mono and if you were fishing braid you could get away with 6 ounces.
