Re: Fishing myths
Fishing is all luck. This is a MYTH. I honestly believe that if you plan everything just right, you will do well. Now there are many things that need to come together just right but if they do, its game on. For good days, certain things are a must before you venture out. Among them are:
- Saturdays are generally better than Sundays for obvious reasons not the least of which is if you fish on Sunday your fishing a place that was more than likely fished the day before.
- Cloudy skies better than sunny skies. Two reasons here. 1)Fish are more skitterish on sunny days and 2) sunny skies means high pressure = less active fish; cloudy means low pressure = more active fish. Same goes for shade vs sun. Shady good; sun bad.
- Rainfall day or night before. Rises on streams/rivers equals hungry/actively feeding fish. Rainfall also knocks down many weeds on lakes allowing for easier fishing. Rainfall also increases oxygen levels especially a heavy rain. More oxygen means more active fish.
If conditions above are met, more than likely you'll do well. "X" factor - as always - is any other anglers. This part is hardest to control and although it may seem like luck if you get a pond or section of river or stream to yourself, there are ways to lessen the chance someone else will be there. An example is the mighty Passaic which seems to be fished every day yet in 7 trips there this year, I've yet to see a yak or boot print. I go where and when others don't. This is not luck.
The bottom line is be smart and you can make your own 'luck'.
