By the responses so far I hope you will have the integrity to respond with an apology to both the captain and owner of the boat. Even then there are still people who want to believe only the negative and with that in mind you have, to some point, damaged the reputation of both the captain and owner to which that apology bocomes that much more evident in it's necessity.
