That sucks Bob and I know the feeling all too well.
Alarms usually means engine got too hot or it's not getting sufficent oil.
Hopefully it's a quick inexpensive fix.
Not sure it's the same on yours, but our Mercurys had a float in the oil tank inside the cowling and once an a while when we'd tilt the engine up it would stick and give a false alarm. You might want to check that...
