Right on. Open water quick strikes are okay. Like jimmythegreek said be prepared for the fish. Through the ice I carry a bag to the hole every time me or someone else gets a flag. I carry a boga, long pliers, knife, jaw spreader, tape measure, and camera. I like bogas because the head joint spins and you can keep them in the hole while unhooking them. Pull them out for a quick pic then it's back in the water. Letting them flop around on the ice can damage their scales and fins, and their eyeballs and gills can freeze. I've seen fish flipping around for more than 5 minutes while someone runs back to their sled to get pliers, camera etc...
