agree w saxmatt, no quickstrikes thru the ice, thats why I edited my post to say open water. Thru the ice is no easier than open water for muskie, its easier in open water cause u can move and locate fish, w ice u commit to a spot or area and wait for them. If your gonna fish for them in this water temp, make sure u have heavy tackle and the right net, pliers, hook cutters. They easily die this time of year, u wanna fight them quick to the net and keep em in the water. only pull em out for quick pics and then hold em in the water til they start kicking. It can take 5-10 min for a big fish to gain its senses, inexperienced fisherman usually release too soon and end up killing fish. Ive seen 2 big 40+ tigers floating in the main lake this summer on LH, I actually have pics of them floating. They are bi-catch on light gear and they die from the long fight trying to get them to the boat. sad such a aggressive fish at the top of the food chain is so fragile in warm water.....
