A lurker's first post.
I've been lurking on your site for a few months, but haven't had anything to post. Pretty much new to fishing. Grew up fishing with my dad, but haven't wet a line about 20 years. The old man passed away a few months back and I got the itch to get out there. I have a 2year old so have only had about a dozen chances to fish and spent most trips exploring the banks looking for fishable spots.
Got my first fish since I was a kid this morning! Hit Farrington Lake at 5:30am hoping to catch trout with worms, but ended up getting three decent crappies in the first hour. After that nothing the rest of the morning. Tried a bunch of different spots near the damn. Took a walk down below the damn, which was spilling over heavily. It was pretty flooded out down there, threw some weedless rigged plastic worms into the churning, swirling water, but it was so misty I couldn't even see my line. Called it quits. What most of you would call a bad day was a thrill ride for me!
I know a lot of you guys worry about lurkers and spot burners, but I hope you keep doing what you do here. Your collective knowledge, enthusiasm, and sense of humor makes this an awesome read and the best source of NJ fishing information I could find on the net. I'm sure there are other guys like me discovering the sport, who do their own leg work to find spots. I don't come here to steal spots, but to learn about baits, lures, techniques, and fish species. You guys have been an invaluable resource and I look forward to making contributions as I learn more from you.
