When jigging inshore sea bass a setup that has worked very well for me and others is a Shimano Trevala S Series rod in either the L ML or M and 3000 or 4000 sized spinning reel with 20lb braid.

These rods work well because they are slow action and bend through the rod handle. This action is really important in the method that I use to jig inshore sea bass so if you don't want to get a Trevala any slow action rod should work.

Using mostly 60 - 90 gram jigs drop the jig to the bottom and start winding very slowly to move the jig through the desired water column where you are marking sea bass Don't set the hook hard as the fish really set themselves when they attack the bait. Simply keep reeling as you feel bites. The S series Trevala will load up fully when you have a fish stuck on your jig. Then you just need to reel them in.

Also - 1 jig and no teaser has worked best for me. Jig style is up to you but center weighted butterfly jigs in pink/white, chart/white, yellow/white have all worked great.

You can also slow squid Ava 007 to 027 with great success. Tail or not and what color is always experimental.
