You make my point. Even with a 10 flounder limit its still more expensive than just buying the 10 fish( already fileted) a mile from your house.
Almost no one fishs for cheap food. Maybe the locals who walk down the street and cast off a dock and walk home. Many of us do it for fun. We invest a lot in upgrades in tackle. Newest lures, etc.
Why do you think Circle hooks exist and in some species circle hooks are required?
It's an expensive sport and hunter-gatherer guy has been priced out of that function. LOL
Sure I'd like a 10x10" flounder limit too. But would that stingy catch limit stop me from going out on my own boat on a 57 degree sunny light wind end-of-March day with a friend? Some would decline. Many would not. Cabin fever is a factor too. May's a long way off

What would a 5 gallon bucket of mussles, 4 or 5 chum logs, and 5 dozen sand worms cost these days??.. Add ramp fees, gas, etc etc, and it might cost 2 guys $100 each or better to go flounder fishing.. Its MUCH easier for the locals that live close by.. However the local businesses depend on transients that must travel to fishing areas as much or more than they do on locals.. THOSE guys.. the guys that travel and must spend money , are the ones that no longer fish for flounder.. Like me... bob
