Working a jig depends on the bait that's present.

1) AVA's with tails or without work great when sandeels are present, or even sometimes bigger rainfish. Hopping them off the bottom works, but a slow, steady retrieve off the bottom with diamonds is deadly.

2) Krocs can be hopped off the bottom, or retrieved medium or fast. They are great herring/bunker imitators and the retrieve rate is the key w/ krocs.

3) Stingo's - probably the best and most versatile "jig" on the market. You can vertical jig them off the bottom, you can butterfly them, or you can slow or fast retrieve them. You can fish the stingo pb&j jigs when herring, sandeels, or any other long profile bait is around.

4) Crippled Herrings - pretty sure they're hard to find these days, but they still work. IMO one of the best and most effective vertical jigging jigs out there. Great for when peanuts or herring are around.

5) Hopkins shorty - old school! Best fished by "squidding it" - which is reeling it in at a steady pace. Bass still love them too! Great when sandeels are around as well as herring.

Hope this helps!
