Looks like a fun day on the water.
That fish is definitely a Pickerel. They look like pike because they are closely related. For pickerel, I look for the verticles stripe coming down from the eye and the chain-like camouflage pattern. Here is a chart that shows some of the ways the two species can be differenciated:
