I found longer rods easier to work with on PB, just because it was easier to clear the hull. But that does not mean that shorter rods cannot be used.
One thing about the 500G rating though.. Most jigs you use for tuna won't be heavy enough to load the rod properly.. Might wanna go with 300G as Sea Bear suggested if you still have a choice..
