yesterday i went to my new lake and managed 50 bass and 5 sunnies, incredible as usual. this morning i tried a different pond near the same housing development, hoping not to get kicked out

. looked like there would be bass between 10-15" with not much slop in the water so i thought my ML rod would be perfect. tied on a small popper and on the first cast my line got a bit tangled when flying off the spool. while untangling it a 2lb bass crushed the lure and i set the hook reeling in the tangled line. this was my first topwater bass of 2012

. fished for 2 more hours with different stuff and ended up losing lures due to bringing too light of tackle as big fish snapped me off, including losing what looked to be a 4lb chunk on a stick bait

. decided to go back to the same spot as yesterday since the fish were smaller. upon arrival i was shocked to see hundreds of sunnies, bass and catfish half dead with their noses sticking out of the water, and some washed up dead on the bank

none of them would touch my lure, they didn't even move when i reeled it through them. fished the pond next to it and managed 2 more bass a bullfrog and a crappie, so it was just the one lake that got screwed up. i don't know what happened in a 12 hour period that caused a massive fish kill, mabey some p.o.s. dumping chemicals or a parasitic/bacterial outbreak in the water. its a shame to see such a good fishery go to waste.
