Just a heads-up, a paddle for a john boat will be just about useless on a windy day. Oars are no picnic either, but they will get you back to shore much faster. I used to run a 12' aluminum boat on a lake in PA, and the couple times the electric motor battery died on me I was very thankful I had the oars as a backup.
