If I can see the hook exposed, I have an 18" hook remover and it's usually pretty easy. The sharks range from 3-7 feet and they are usually pretty tired after pulling me around for up to a half hour. If I can't see the hook, I cut the wire leader as close to the hook as I can, without getting too close to the mouth.
