Thumbs up First big D trip 2012

went exploring for a new bank fishing spot and found the perfect place to set up some catfish rods and throw out a jig in the mean time. caught one cat within 20 minutes, had a deformed tail but still a good fighting 3 lber. hooked up with a small walleye on a mister twister but it spat the hook near the shoreline. nothing for a while after that so i walked downstream to the wing dam. the water is too fast and shallow for cats so i threw out the twister for a good half an hour with no hits and snagged it eventually. tied on a new one and walked back to the first spot. but halfway there i saw a deep cement cove in the canal that runs parallel, so after dropping down the jig once i felt a bump within 5 seconds and pulled up a 12" lmb out of nowhere . fished there for 15 more minutes and continued to the first spot. once there, no more catfish but i hooked into something else on the jig but once again spat the hook. ready to leave in a few, i did one more cast and WHAM, something big took it and peeled drag for a while. it surfaced and i saw a big shad at the end, my first ever . after at least a 5 minute fight i finally landed it, took pics and released the silvery beast. looked about 3-4lbs and 20". on 4lb line and a trout rod, one of my favorite fighting freshwater fish.
