I’m writing this a little early this year because of all the warm weather. Once again I’m going to go on my rant about how we need to be safe when we are out enjoying our favorite hobby.
Unlike our saltwater counterparts we are exposed to a number of different hazards unique to freshwater fishing. I don’t want to log on and read about one of our fellow NJF members getting hurt, or worse.
Wilson turned me onto a wading stick and I never looked back, an old ski pole will work well.
Also I keep a very big high grade whistle in my vest, sometimes a way to signal for help if the situation should arise. Let’s keep our minds on being safe, because if we get hurt then we can’t go out and fish the next day or even longer. Maybe little things like letting someone know your float plan if your doing a river by yourself, life jackets, and watch the WEATHER ! I’ve been hit by lighting once, and take it from me, that was enough. If you see any dangerous things while out fishing feel free to post to warn others.
